Rules of Baccarat

In Baccarat Games the cards marked 2-9 are their relevant value whilst 10s, Jacks, Queens and Kings are worth zero. An ace is valued at one point. The value of the hand is gained by adding the value of the cards together but it is impossible to get a score bigger than 9. If the value of the cards adds up to double figures, 10 is dropped so that just the second digit makes up the player’s score. For example, If a player is dealt an 8 and a 6, which adds up to 14, the player has a hand value of 4. If he is dealt a 6 and a 4, equaling 10, the value of the hand is 0. Zero is the worst hand but despite this the game is actually named after it (Baccarat = 0).

The player places a bet and then two cards are dealt to both the player and the dealer. Depending on the cards that are dealt there may be a need for further cards. If the player or the banker has 8 or 9 then no more cards will be dealt. If this doesn’t happen and the player has a total of 0-5 from his two cards he will be dealt another. The player will have to stand on a 6 or 7. If the player draws a 2 or a 3 the dealer will be given another card if his total is 0-4. The dealer must stand if his score is between 5 and 7. If the player has a 4 or a 5 the banker will be given another card should his initial hand be between 0 and 5 inclusive and he has to stand on a 6 or 7. If the player is dealt 6 or 7 the dealer will be given another card if his score is 0-6 and he must stand on 7. If a player makes 8, the dealer will only be given another card if his score is 0-2, anything higher and he must stand. If the player happens to draw an Ace, 9, 10 or a face card, the dealer gets another card if his score is 0-3, and stands on all higher scores.

The highest score wins in Baccarat (9 being the highest score a player can obtain) and winning bets are rewarded at even money.
