What is Card Counting?

Card Counting is a strategy that can be used in some forms of Blackjack in order to sway the edge of the game from the casinos favour to the players advantage. Card counting is achieved through keeping track of all the high and low cards that have been drawn out of the pack since the last time it was shuffled. This gives the player the advantage as he is often able to determine whether or not the next card is likely to be high or low, based on what has already been out. This knowledge, combined with perfect Blackjack strategy means that in the long run it is the player who will make profit. The amount of profit normally depends on which of the Card Counting Systems is used.

If the player decides that more high cards have been drawn out already then Blackjack is going to be less likely so this favours the dealer. However, if there are more high cards left in the deck then Blackjack is more likely and the player is able to raise their stakes so that when they do get Blackjack, they make more profit than usual from it.

With the player knowing which hand favours either the dealer or the player, they are able to manipulate the game by changing their stakes according to how much it favours each side on each game. This is where the Card Counting Edge is gained.
