    Blackjack Card Values

Understanding the card values in Blackjack is the first step to understanding the game of Blackjack. The main cards to look out for are Aces, Kings, Queens, Jacks and Tens.

The Ace is perhaps the most important card because it can be used as a 1 or an 11. You don't even have to decide what value it will represent when you are dealt it. It can be changed throughout the hand to suit the number you are aiming for. For example, you may be dealt an Ace and a Six making your hand 7 or 17, depending on how you use the Ace. You can hit knowing that a very low number is going to make your hand hard to bet but a high number isnt going to make you bust. Being dealt a 4 will give you 21, whilst being dealt a Ten or a face card will put you back onto 17 as you will only be able to use your Ace as a 1 (unless you want to be bust!)

Kings, Queens, Jacks and Tens all count as 10 and for most of the game will act as the same cards although you may not be able split them as a pair at some card rooms if you have a mixture such as a King and a Queen.

The rest of the cards, 2 through to 9 all represent their given number. Don't forget that in Blackjack the suit of the card makes no difference to the outcome of the game. Once the player has been dealt his cards he will have to consider his Blackjack Card Options.
